The Dissapearance of
Washington University in St. Louis

An edition publication designed and letterpress printed for the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, in collaboration with Ken Botnick (Emdash Press), with unique frontis pieces drawn by artist Luis Camnitzer.

A transcription of Camnitzer's 2011 Southern Graphics Council International keynote address, the book design uses shifting margins and subtle directional symbols to guide the reader and mirror the marginalization that Camnitzer explores in the text. Speaking at length about his own immigrant experience and it's effect on rise as an artist, Camnitzer is both frank and poetic. As such, the book was produced with raw and uncovered bookboard, and bound with a simple bookcloth hinge. The title, handwritten on each book by the artist, is in un-fixed graphite.
